THE Baldivis retail precinct is growing faster than expected, according to Rockingham Mayor Barry Sammels.
Councillor Sammels and Rockingham council planning boss Bob Jeans visited the precinct surrounding Stockland’s shopping centre, near Safety Bay Road, last week.
Currently the shopping centre has a Coles supermarket and 21 individual stores.
Within the precinct, a McDonald’s 24-hour café opened earlier this year along with a new medical centre.
The addition of a new Dome coffee franchise, expected to open in mid-January, will add to the appeal of the precinct, Cr Sammels said.
“The growth in Baldivis probably caught us (council) by surprise a little and you can see we are trying to rectify that through our 10-year plan,” he said.
“So it is important that the shopping and entertainment precinct out here continues to keep pace with that growth.
“Having Dome open up here just adds to the appeal of the area and makes it a really vibrant place for people to come and shop.”
Cr Sammels said council would continue to monitor the growth of the precinct and examine expansion possibilities to meet any such demand.
