A LIFELONG love of cars and all things mechanical has paid off for Jason Harding, of Kwinana, who recently booked his spot in the National Worldskills championship in Brisbane.

The 24-year-old mechanical fitter, who works at the Telfar Goldmine, will head to Brisbane in May after he won gold in the Fitting category of the recent WA championships.

Jason was the only competitor in his category to finish his task.

“It was a really good day – I didn’t know what the task would be and managed to be the only one to finish it so I was pretty happy,” he said.

Jason, who won bronze two years ago, always enjoyed mechanical work and hoped to expand his knowledge at a university in Brisbane.

Jason said he was excited about taking on 14 competitors at the national championships.

“My whole family is flying over to watch and I want to show them what I can do – this is my trade and I am good at it,” he said.
