THE owners of a dog that attacked Mindarie girl Amia Higgins this month were distraught and have contacted rangers, according to a family friend.
A friend of the owner said he had contacted rangers after a report in the Weekender’s sister paper North Coast Times earlier this week.
He made it clear to the Weekender that the owner was very upset after the incident and did not know the seriousness of the injury.
Amia (8) was left with facial injuries that required surgery after the dog bit her in the face in the car park behind Mindarie’s Quinns Beach.
The owner’s friend said the incident left them feeling sick and they went as far as checking on Amia’s situation with the Joondalup Health Campus emergency room although at the time staff were unaware of her situation.
He said they were doing everything that they needed to do to assist with the investigation and would continue to liaise with City of Wanneroo rangers when they returned from a long-planned holiday.
