WANNEROO has recorded the highest increase in new electors registering to vote this year in the lead-up to the daylight saving referendum on Saturday May 16.
More than 1500 voters have signed up across the district to have their say, marking the largest increase in new voters in one electorate Statewide.
The WA Electoral Commission also anticipates it will receive about 55,000 early votes prior to the referendum voting deadline.
Electoral commissioner Warwick Gately said there was high community interest in the referendum.
“The current level of postal voting demand, combined with the early in-person voting at our 57 designated early voting centres indicates high community interest in the daylight savings debate,” he said.
“Hopefully this interest will be reflected in a high turnout on polling day.”
The deadline for early voting in person closes at 6pm on Friday, May 15.
The final deadline for postal vote applications is 6pm on Thursday, May 14.
