IF standing out from the crowd is a priority this autumn, a visit to Carol’s Closet in Kinross could put you in “one-off” wardrobe heaven.
Carol Halpine stocks one-of-a-kind branded samples from famous US department stores such as Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s and Victoria’s Secret.
Born in the US, she initially set up shop at Fremantle’s E-Shed Markets before moving to Kinross Central shopping centre to be closer to her Padbury home.
So far, the reaction from northern suburbs style gurus has been positive, with a regular clientele eager to get first dibs at each new shipment of stock.
“We have regular customers who hound us for new stock, so we email them with specials and let them know when new items arrive,” Carol said.
“People come here mainly because they do not like looking like everyone else. Most of the stock comes from the US and I don't think there is another shop quite like it in Perth.”
Among the treasures in Carol’s Closet are colourful retro-style dresses, tops, pants and animal-print boots. Top off the individual look with scarves, handbags and sparkling costume jewellery.
“I had a great opportunity to buy some unique items at a reasonable price and I started selling them at home initially to friends and family,” Carol said.
“We sell lots of dresses for weddings and special occasions, and we cater across all age groups and tastes, and at a good price.”
Carol’s Closet also offers in-store parties, where customers can book for up to 20 people to attend an exclusive evening in the shop.
The hostess receives a gift and the parties can be used as fundraisers.
